Interview at Europaconcorsi
Intervista

Launched Symmetries Architecture Workshop in Rome 2012
SYMMETRIES is a platform led by Iñaqui Carnicero, Jacobo García-Germán and José María Sánchez and a set of initiatives devoted to think about the dialogue between past and present in the urban structures of cities with a Roman origin. SYMMETRIES draws links between places, institutions and universities from Spain and the rest of Europe with the common argument of architectural education. The result of this initiative is holding Workshops + Congresses with architects and architecture students.
SYMMETRIES can be framed within the growing interest and concern for the heritage aspects of architecture and the city, particularly in the context of the crisis of the prevailing urban models that has become so evident in the Spanish context of the last two decades making a reconsideration of old urban fabrics something relevant as an area of reflection with renewed interest.

Artículo de David Cohn en Architectural Record
In the house that Iñaqui Carnicero has built for himself in Madrid’s rolling northern suburbs, the architect declares allegiance to a classic Modernist discipline, following a Madrid tradition that leads back to one of his influential teachers, Alberto Campo Baeza, and to Alejandro de la Sota and other pioneers of a renewed Spanish Modernism in the 1950s. Carnicero’s design reinterprets Corbusian prototypes—the strip window, the crisp rectangular volume raised on pilotis, the double-height interior living space overlooked by balconies and a sculptural stair (made of aluminum and crafted by artist Eduardo Cajal). But he also addresses contemporary concerns, including principles such as thermal inertia and passive airflow.

El estudio premiado con el Design Vanguard 2011 !!!
A fault line runs through the architectural profession separating
academics from practitioners, thinkers from doers, those who imagine
from those who build. Straddling this line, and connecting the realms
on either side, are emerging architects who both teach and practice.
It's a difficult balancing act to pull off, but it often spurs an
exciting form of creativity shaped by tension and risk-taking. Many of
the architects in this year's Design Vanguard epitomize this kind of
back-and-forth career, combining academic research with the nuts and
bolts of delivering real buildings to real clients. From Berkeley to
Barcelona, and Glasgow to Winnipeg, partners in many of this year's
firms have established a fluid relationship between intellectual
exploration and making projects happen. In doing so, they enrich both
spheres of work. Firms shown here are bridging other types of divides,
too, crossing national boundaries, for example, and connecting eras by
tapping the spirit of traditional buildings in works of modern
design. —Clifford A. Pearson

Workshop di Progettazione Internazionale. Universita Roma Tre
